Mechanism Of Action Of Kaolin, Pectin Suspension
- Kaolin acts by adsorbing gases, toxins and bacteria from the alimentary tract and by increasing the bulk of stools; thus it is employed in the symptomatic treatment of gastrointestinal conditions associated with diarrhea.
 - Pectin not only provides additional adsorptive power to that of kaolin, but it also has a coating effect on the bowel.
 - Thus, the combination of both is a simple, safe and efficient antidiarrheal product that combines both adsorbent and demulcent properties essential for the treatment of diarrhea.
 
 
Therapeutic Indications Of Kapect Suspension
- Diarrhea: loose, watery, and possibly more-frequent bowel movements (more than 3 times daily)
 
 
Method Of Administration Of Kapect Suspension
- The following information includes only the average doses of kaolin and pectin
 - Adults: the usual dose is 1 tablespoonful (15 ml) 3 - 6 times daily, or as directed by the physician.
 - Children: the usual dose is - 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) 3 - 6 times daily, or as directed by the physician
 - The dose of kaolin and pectin will be different for different patients.
 - Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label.
 - If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.
 - Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
 - If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
 - If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
 - Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

- No serious side effects have been reported for kaolin and pectin. However, kaolin and pectin may cause
 - constipation in some patients, especially if they take a lot of it.

- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

- Taking a probiotic supplement or eating probiotic foods like some brands of yogurt may also stop diarrhea.
 - Add semisolid and low-fiber foods gradually as your bowel movements return to normal. Try soda crackers, toast, eggs, rice or chicken.
 - Drink plenty of liquids, including water, broths and juices. Avoid caffeine
 - If you’re lactose intolerant, diarrhea may develop after eating dairy products. These include milk, cheese, ice cream, and yogurt.
 - If you’re sensitive to artificial sweeteners, you may have diarrhea after eating foods or drinks containing these sweeteners. Artificial sweeteners are found in diet drinks, sugar-free products, chewing gum, and even some candy.
 - Diarrhea is sometimes a symptom of digestive disorders. You might have frequent bouts of loose stools if you’re diagnosed with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.
 - Diarrhea caused by a virus or bacterial infection is contagious. You can protect yourself by:
 
- washing your hands frequently
 - avoiding sick people
 - disinfecting commonly touched surfaces
 - not sharing personal items
 
- You should also see a doctor if you have:
 
- a fever above 38.9°C
 - bloody or black stools

Warnings & Special Precautions While Taking Kapect Suspension
- Do not take Kaolin, Pectin if:
 
- Hypersensitivity to Kaolin, Pectin
 - You have a fever or if there is blood or mucus in your stool
 - If your diarrhea does not stop after 1 or 2 days or if you develop a fever.
 - If you are taking any other medicine, do not take it within 2 to 3 hours of taking kaolin and
 - Taking the medicines together may prevent the other medicine from being absorbed by your body
